What does an open dictionary mean?

This dictionary is based on the open wordnets. For this project, we primarily used two: Princeton's University's WordNet and Wordnet Bahasa

Princeton University defines the WordNet as:

WordNet® is a large lexical database of English. Nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are grouped into sets of cognitive synonyms (synsets), each expressing a distinct concept. Synsets are interlinked by means of conceptual-semantic and lexical relations. The resulting network of meaningfully related words and concepts can be navigated with the browser. WordNet is also freely and publicly available for download. WordNet's structure makes it a useful tool for computational linguistics and natural language processing.

Inspired by Princeton WordNet and the Global WordNet Grid , the team at Wordnet Bahasa decided to create a large, freely available, semantic dictionary of the Malay languages (Malaysian and Indonesian).

The latest version of the Princeton Wordnet can be found at the website . There are links to both the 3.0 version and the 3.1 version. The latest version of the Bahasa Wordnet can be found at their website which is hosted on SourceForge. You can find more information about the project here .

We decided to use these data sources to create a dictionary with an open API to allow people to learn Bahasa
